WŸLDA
An Appalachian commons for creative life, renewal and intergenerational learning.
This is more than just land
WŸLDA is an emerging Appalachian commons rooted in the mountains of Western North Carolina.
WŸLDA operates as both platform and place: shared infrastructure designed to support meaningful work, creative inspiration, teaching, learning, intergenerational community, celebration, renewal and enduring relationship with the land.We are supported by intentional systems that are financially viable, scaled and regenerative.
Rooted in Appalachia
WŸLDA is envisioned to take root in the Appalachian region surrounding Asheville, North Carolina, a landscape known for its rich cultural traditions, ecological diversity and deep relationship to land.
The Blue Ridge Mountains are among the oldest mountain ranges in the world and home to some of the most biodiverse forests on the planet.
For generations this region has been a place of learning, creativity and renewal. WŸLDA is designed to continue this legacy through thoughtful stewardship and community life connected to the land.
THE FOUNDATIONS OF WŸLDA
WŸLDA is built upon four core foundations that guide the development of the land, the programming, and the long term vision for the campus.
-
The land itself is the foundation of WŸLDA. Through regenerative agriculture, ecological restoration and thoughtful land care, the campus is designed to support both environmental health and human connection to place.
-
WŸLDA will host programs supporting the development of young people through land based learning, mentorship, creativity and rites of passage experiences cultivating resilience, confidence and purpose.
-
Artists, writers, educators and facilitators will gather for retreats, residencies and workshops supporting creative work, personal growth, renewal and collaborative exploration.
-
Seasonal meals, music gatherings, celebrations and community events create spaces for connection, culture and shared experience rooted in the rhythms of the land.
Together these foundations shape WŸLDA as a living commons where creativity, learning, stewardship, renewal and community life unfold throughout the year.
We honor and deeply respect the Indigenous peoples who are the original stewards of this North Carolina land. We recognize their enduring cultural heritage, profound history, and rich traditions. As guests on their ancestral territories, we commit to approaching this land and its original caretakers with reverence, understanding, and heartfelt appreciation. We pledge to treat this land as the living entity it is, walking upon her with gratitude, compassion, and genuine respect.
